Why did the Brightwell students cross the Roman road? Because it was buried under their school field!

It's a cobbled street, dating back possibly to AD 43, found after months of searching. The dig, by Wallingford Historical and Archaeological Society, has been taking place over the last few weeks, unearthing coins and pottery.

Headteacher Sue Potts said, "We are so lucky that we're getting the opportunity to watch something so exciting so closely."

The last week of term, as the dig comes to a close, has been an exciting one. The children have had the chance to explore the dig zone and talk with the people involved with the excavation. Ms Potts said, "It's been a fabulous experience and hopefully something everyone will remember for quite some time!"

The BBC covered the story.
